Many of our customers require heavier correction in their lenses, and are extremely concious of the thickness their correction may cause. Our goal is to give them the best vision possible while keeping their otherwise thick lenses as thin as possible.
This is accomplished by using a "high
index" lens. Index refers to the rate of speed light waves travel through the lens. The higher the index of the lens, the thinner that lens can be.
At Payton Optical we offer many solutions for those who wear heavier corrections:
Ultralitestyle lenses have a one millimeter center for a near sighted correction and a very thin outside edge for far sighted customers. Ultralitestyle lenses are aspheric lenses which simply put does away with the appearance of eye bulge that plagues many heavy correction
wearers.
1.67 and 1.74 index lenses are considered the best choice in high index lenses but they are far more expensive than the other choices. In a high minus RX, they will provide the least amount of lens edge thickness while giving the wearer optimum vision.
In most cases, we can dispense the less expensive Ultralitestyle and the wearer will be pleased with it's appearance and performance.
Hi Index Lenses
One of the best products we have
ever offered at Payton Optical is the
Crizal anti-reflective coating. Anti-
reflective coatings have been around
for a long time. If you own a pair of
binoculars, a digital camera, a cam-
corder or other device with an optical
lens, chances are the lens is coated
with anti-reflective coating.
The problem has always been the durability of anti-reflective
coatings. The fact is, most of them are fragile at best, requiring
special cleaning and storage of the device. It would be unthinkable
to add one of these to a pair of eyeglass lenses. With just a few
days of wear, most of these coating would be destroyed!
At Payton Optical we have always thought anti-reflective
coatings were a great idea, and we've tried them on our patients
over the years without much success. Until Crizal. Crizal is
the most durable coating by far of any kind we have tried at Payton
Optical. While it's true every coating can and will scratch, Crizal
has a two year, two replacement warranty against scratching!
Crizal
     Why purchase Crizal? Most
people who wear glasses will
benefit from Crizal.
While it offers the very best
in scratch protection available,
it's primary purpose is to reduce
naturally occuring light reflection
from your lens surface! This reflection can reduce your overall visual performance. This can be dangerous especially at night when light reflections can cause "halo" effects around car and street lights making it very difficult to see after dark.
     Crizal has been reworked
several times to accomodate
customer concerns about difficulty
in cleaning. We tell our patients
to use the cheapest liquid hand
soap they can find, warm water
and a cotton cloth. The result
should be crystal clear vision!
     There are many other coatings
out there, but Payton Optical
only recommends the Crizal
line of coatings. We are certain
that one of these products will
be right for you! In the event we
find that Crizal isn't available for
your lense style or material we
can offer other coatings beside
Crizal.
